Philippine Coins: 2000 10 Peso New BSP Series

In 2000, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas minted the 10 peso coin to replace the 10 peso banknote. This coin is the first bi-metallic coin in the Philippines. The coin features 2 National Heroes, Apolinario Mabini and Andres Bonifacio.

I have been keeping this coin for a while and I even almost forgot I had it. Luckily, I was able to find my box of coins where I kept this or else I might have bought one from the coin dealers.

Rumors have spread that the center of the 10 peso coin minted in 2000 and 2001 contains gold. This has not been proven by anyone and BSP has not confirmed that these coins contain gold. Personally, I don’t believe there is gold in this coin and I would advise caution to those who think they can sell their coins for a higher value. Some people have been ripped off because of these rumors.

This 10 peso coin has reportedly been counterfeited. Unfortunately, I have not done any research on how to detect the fake one from the real thing. If you have any info, please post them on the comments.
