Philippine Banknotes: 2013 100 Peso National Year Of Rice Overprint

Rice is the staple food of the Philippines. Pinoys almost always have rice every mealtime. It’s not a meal if there is no rice. We have cultivated rice for centuries. The International Rice Research Institute or IRRI has its headquarters in Los Banos, Laguna which tells me Philippines is the leader in rice research.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has released an overprint celebrating “National Year of Rice”.

“2013”
“SAPAT NA BIGAS KAYA NG PINAS!”
“NATIONAL YEAR OF RICE”

I am lucky to have someone who looks out for new overprints. My cousin found this and kept it for me again. Of course I traded it for its face value and now it part of my collection. Overprint is inked in black.

“Extra rice anyone?”

Enjoy!
