Philippine Banknotes: 2013 100 Peso Iglesia Ni Cristo Centennial Overprint
The Iglesia ni Cristo or INC, is a Christian denomination religion that was founded on July 27, 1914 here in the Philippines. This year, 2014, marks their 100th anniversary.
100 peso banknotes were printed by Bangko Sentral to commemorate the 100th anniversary of INC. Though the anniversary is for this year, the overprint banknotes were printed and distributed on the last quarter of 2013.
2013 100 Peso Iglesia Ni Cristo Centennial Overprint
“IGLESIA NI CRISTO CENTENNIAL”
“1914 – 2014”
The letters I N C on torch styled as flames.
The Iglesia ni Cristo centennial celebration was held on July 27, 2014 at Ciudad de Victoria – a 140-hectare tourism zone in Bulacan, 24 kilometers north of Manila.
- INC owns the largest indoor arena in the world (by capacity) with a seating capacity of 55,000. Its called the Philippine Arena.
I was fortunate enough to get this overprint new from an ATM machine early this year. It was totally unexpected since I didn’t think banks would actually load new overprint banknotes in ATM’s.
The overprint is inked in blue which was quite strange to me since the colors of INC are green, white, and red. It would have been nice if the overprint was done in 3 colors. It would have made this overprint much more collectible.
