Philippine Coins: 2018 25 Sentimo New Generation Currency

The 25 Sentimo of the New Generation Currency looks just like the 5 Sentimo only larger. It follows the same general design as the new 5 Piso released on November of 2017.

Specifications:

Diameter: 20mm
Thickness: 1.5mm
Metalic Composition: Nickel-clad steel

I have come across this coin in circulation around March of 2018. Fortunately, these coins are still used by most people. Unlike the other lower value Sentimo coins that are often just thrown away. It’s design is also minimalist like most coins in this series. It has a plain edge.

The flower on the reverse is the Katmon. Unlike most of the flowers depicted in the series which are flowers of vines, the Katmon is from a tree. The one depicted on this coin is a species endemic to the Philippines. The scientific name is Dillenia philippinensis. This particular tree is part of a larger family of trees that can be found in most parts of Asia and India. It’s fruit is known as elephant apple. The tree has a vulnerable status since it is harvested for its timber and for its fruits as well. More info on the Katmon here.

Enjoy!
