Philippine Banknotes: 2020 100 Piso Enhanced New Generation Currency
2020 is a year of enhancements. We had the ECQ and its variants because of the pandemic. On July 29, Bangk Sentral ng Pilipinas announced the release of the Enhanced New Generation Currency. These notes feature security enhancements to keep up with the times.

Notable differences to previous version:
1. Intaglio bands on extreme left and right of banknote
2. Improved windowed Security thread
The bands of the extreme right and left of the banknote serves as tactile marks to help the visually impaired to easily identify the denomination. An excerpt from Gov. Diokno’s speech during the launch describes the purpose of the bands.
“We added tactile marks to the banknotes specifically intended to help the elderly and visually impaired to quickly identify the value or denomination of the banknote.
Pairs of short horizontal bands are printed in intaglio or engraved at the extreme right and left sides of the note. A 1000-Piso has five pairs of this tactile mark; the 500-Piso will have four pairs; three pairs for the 200-Piso; two pairs for the 100-Piso; while a 50-Piso will have one pair of tactile marks.”
The Security Thread now features a weave design. For the 100 Piso the weave is a textile design from Bicol Region. The thread also bears the alphanumeric denominational value and the text “BSP” in a repeated series. It also changes color as you tilt the banknote.
I will not feature the reverse of the banknote as it remains the same as in the older versions. You can check out the original design of the NGC note here.
As enhancements go, I think this is a good move for BSP to improve our banknotes despite the rise of online or cashless transactions. These enhancements will be applied to all current banknotes except for the 20 peso note since this has been replaced with a coin.
